LANCASTER, Calif. - Trent Thornton tossed a seven-inning complete game shutout to lead the JetHawks over the San Jose Giants in game one of a doubleheader, 3-0, on Thursday night at The Hangar. Lancaster also took game two, 9-4.

Thornton (6-4) needed just 76 pitches (54 strikes) to secure the first shutout of his career. The right-hander allowed just four hits, no walks, and struck out four. Thornton retired eight in a row beginning with the final out of the second.

The game was scoreless until the fifth, when Brooks Marlow delivered an RBI double to put the JetHawks on the board against San Jose starter Phil Bickford (2-1). Lancaster added two big insurance runs in the sixth. Johnny Sewald doubled and Ramon Laureano followed with a two-run homer.

Bickford tossed a six-inning complete game, but suffered the loss. He allowed three runs on three hits and struck out three.

Laureano went deep again in game two, the first of back-to-back homers with Bryan Muniz in the second inning. The JetHawks scored three in the first, three in the second, two in the third, and one in the fourth to jump out to a big lead.

Muniz was 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Laureano and Drew Ferguson each tallied a pair of hits.

Rogelio Armenteros (6-2) picked up the win, striking out seven over five innings of work. Kevin McCanna tossed two perfect innings out of the bullpen with two strikeouts to seal the win.

The JetHawks and Giants conclude their four-game series on Friday night at The Hangar. Dean Deetz (4-5) will start for Lancaster against Matt Cain (0-0), who will be making a major league rehab appearance. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
