BURLINGTON, VT --- The top two batters in the Lowell order combined for seven hits and Sean Killeen hit a three-run homer as the Spinners beat the Vermont Lake Monsters 6-2 in New York-Penn League action Saturday night at historic Centennial Field.

Both starting pitchers shined over the first five innings of a scoreless game. Vermont starter Chad Jenkins gave up just two hits with one walk and eight strikeouts over his five innings, but was matched by Lowell starter Madison Younginger's 1 hit allowed over five scoreless innings.

The Spinners got on the board in the sixth as Lowell's top of the order hitters Felix Sanchez and Jose Garcia got back-to-back one-out singles to put runners on first and third. After a hit batter loaded the bases, Bryce Brentz reached on a fielder's choice to plate Sanchez with the first run.

Lowell got two more runs in the eighth as Joantoni Garcia led off with a double and scored on a Sanchez RBI single. After Sanchez stole second and moved to third on Jose Garcia's fourth hit of the game, Kolbrin Vitek hit a sacrifice fly to center for a 3-0 Lowell lead.

Then in the ninth Killeen hit a one-out, three-run homer to leftfield for a 6-0 advantage. All six runs were charged to Lake Monsters reliever Shane McCatty (0-1), who allowed eight hits and struckout three in 3 1/3 innings.

Vermont had just three hits for the game, including two Stephen King doubles in the first and seventh innings. Spinner wildness led to both of the Lake Monster runs in the bottom of the ninth as Charle Rosario and Chez Angeloni combined to walk five Vermont batters in the inning. Angeloni ended the game as he got potential-tying run Marcus Jones to groundout with the bases loaded.

Sanchez was 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI for Lowell (1-1), which picked up its first win of the season after a 9-4 loss to the Lake Monsters on Friday. Jose Garcia was 4-for-5 as the Spinners outhit the Lake Monsters 11-3 for the game.

The two teams will play the finale of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon at Centennial beginning at 1:05 pm. Gates will open at 12 noon as Matt Swynenberg gets the start for Vermont. It is Have A Catch Sunday as all fans can go out onto the outfield after the game to play catch.
