Los Angeles FC News Release

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) fell to the San Jose Earthquakes 3-2 Wednesday night at Earthquakes Stadium in a game that had been re-scheduled from Sunday.

The Black & Gold tallied the first goal of the game in the 23rd minute on a Latif Blessing tap-in assisted by Diego Rossi and Diego Palacios. However, the Club didn't enjoy the lead for long, conceding an Eduard Atuesta own goal off a San Jose corner in the 28th minute. The Earthquakes added another goal before the half when Chris Wondolowski finished a chance in LAFC's box on an assist from Cristian Espinoza in the 37th minute.

LAFC opened the second half strong and then seemed poised to get back into the game after San Jose's Jackson Yueill was sent off in the 61st minute for a hard challenge on Jordan Harvey. Down to 10 men, it was the Earthquakes that added to their lead when Cristian Espinoza scored in the 72nd minute on an assist by Shea Salinas. Diego Rossi added one more goal to his MLS league-leading tally, his 13th on the season, off a beautiful delivery from Carlos Vela, but it proved too little too late.

With the loss, LAFC sits in 6th place in the Western Conference with a 9-8-4 record (31 points). The Black & Gold finish their 2020 regular season campaign this Sunday at home against the Portland Timbers on MLS Decision Day 2020 presented by AT&T, with kickoff at Banc of California Stadium slated for 3:30 p.m. PT (FS1, FOX Deportes, ESPN LA 710 AM, KFWB 980 AM).
