LYNN, Mass. – Lynn resident Donna Mills is making an impact both on and off the field. Mills currently plays third base, shortstop and pitcher in the New England Division of the North American Women's Baseball League (NAWBL) that plays at Fraser Field in Lynn.

Mills is presently employed by the Lynn District Court and formerly attended Lynn Vocational Technical Institute from 1987-1991. She played softball for four years at Lynn Tech where she still holds numerous records. From 1991-1996, Mills played softball for U-Mass Lowell where she was the recipient of various awards and also holds offensive records.

In 1993, Mills played softball for Team USA in the first-ever Modified Pitch International Tournament in Puerto Rico. She made the transition to baseball in 2000 playing in the Women's New England Baseball League. In 2001, Mills played on the USA National Women's Baseball Team, participating in the first-ever World Series in Toronto, Canada, and in 2002 she was a member of Team USA that competed in St. Petersburg, FL.

Mills had the opportunity to travel to the Gold Coast of Australia with Team USA in 2003, and just this past summer she played in the New England Division of North American Women's Baseball League. She was also selected to the league All-Star team, the Lady Spirit, that competes nationwide.

These days, Donna Mills is busy assisting softball clinics every Sunday at the Lynn Tech Field House. The clinics are offered until February 8 from 1-2:30 pm for girls 12 and under, and 3:00-4:30 pm for girls 13 and over. Mills used to attend these same clinics at Lynn Tech when she was a child and after graduating from college she reconstructed and organized them.

"I have great appreciation for Mr. Lopardo and Mr. Melanson for working with us and giving so much to us," said Mills. "As a female athlete, I've never encountered this type of behavior before. Nothing, whether it be financial or material, has ever been given to female athletes. Mr. Lopardo has treated us first class, every step of the way. From uniforms, umpires, fields, accommodations, equipment, and coaches; everything has been first class."
