Harrisburg Lady Horizon News Release
HARRISBURG - It wasn't much of a game. Simply a metaphor of their season. The Harrisburg Lady Horizon beat the overmatched Philadelphia Power 86-68 Saturday with an all-out team effort. They finish with an 8-1 record for the year.
The Lady Horizon maintained a comfortable lead throughout the game despite a Herculean effort from Philadelphia guard Iesha Smith, who led all scorers with 34 points and was the Power's lone threat on offense. Smith made four three-pointers and was a perfect 8-8 from the foul line.
Harrisburg started to pull away early in the contest thanks to their fast break. They opened up an 11-point lead after an Amy MacDonald field goal with 9:39 remaining in the first half. Philadelphia never got to within single digits from that point on, though they did cut it to 12 halfway through the second half.
Guard Hilary Waltman scored a team-high 23 points and forward Sasha Leverentz had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Guard April Longo finished with 15 points and two three-pointers. Harrisburg went 12-16 from the foul line.
The win was a fitting end to Harrisburg's season, which saw them win 8 consecutive games after losing to New York in the season opener. The Lady Horizon often out-ran opponents by pushing the ball up the court and scoring easy points in transition. The Horizon's depth was always to their advantage as the bench was able to keep the momentum going after the starters gained the lead. This was the case even without starting center Carla Vicidomini, who suffered a season-ending knee injury halfway through the season.
