Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth unveiled the team's 'Lacrosse Out Cancer' jerseys and shorts on Tuesday night at Brothers Bar & Grill in Lone Tree, Colo. They're believed to be a first in professional sports.
Each player on the roster chose the type of cancer he wants to play for on 'Lacrosse Out Cancer' Night, which will be held on Sat., Mar. 8 on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center on 7pm. The ribbon-color of the 'Lacrosse Out Cancer' logo on each player's jersey reflects the type of cancer he's playing for that night.
"I'm playing for breast cancer because my wife is a survivor!" said forward Sean Pollock.
Two-time MVP John Grant Jr. is playing for brain cancer. Adam Jones, who leads the NLL in goals and points, will play for Ewing Sarcoma. Cameron Holding chose to play for prostate cancer.
Players will wear black shorts on 'Lacrosse Out Cancer' Night. The side trim will match the ribbon-color that each player has chosen.
"For years, 'Lacrosse Out Cancer' Night' has served as a great way to raise funds to help put an end to the disease," said Mammoth president & general manager Steve Govett. "Giving players the opportunity to choose the types of cancer they wish to play for personalizes it for them."
The nameplate (on the back) of each jersey will feature the words "I'M PLAYING FOR". The jerseys will be auctioned off later this month on eBay. Each winning bidder will choose the first and last name they want to appear on their jersey.
