LA Galaxy Sign Pair of Galaxy II Players to Short Term Agreements

CARSON, Calif. - The LA Galaxy have signed LA Galaxy II midfielder Alejandro Covarrubias and defender Lee Nishanian to Short Term Agreements ahead of their Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 match against Portland Timbers Wednesday, June 29, at Providence Park in Portland (7:30 p.m. PT, www.lagalaxy.com).

MLS clubs may sign players from their USL affiliate to Short Term Agreements (up to four-day contracts) for CONCACAF Champions League, AMWAY Canadian Championship, U.S. Open Cup, and exhibition matches. An MLS club may sign a player to a maximum of four short term agreements each season (maximum of 16 days). This will be the second of such agreements for Covarrubias - he was called up to the 18 for LA Galaxy's 4-1 U.S. Open Cup fourth-round win over UPSL side La Máquina on June 14 .

Covarrubias has been one of Los Dos' most consistent players so far this season; he's made 15 appearance and has recorded one goal and one assist. Nishanian has also been a big part of the Los Dos campaign; he's made 15 appearances and has added one assist. The pair have helped Galaxy II to a 6-2-8 record, enough for second place in the USL Western Conference.

The Galaxy have recorded a 28-15-1 all-time record in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. They have entered the Open Cup every year since 1999, winning the tournament in 2001 and 2005 while reaching the Open Cup Final on two other occasions. Last year, the Galaxy fell to Real Salt Lake in the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
