La Chapin Conquer "La Super Copa"

Washington, D.C. (May 11, 2009) - La Chapin, representing the Maryland International Soccer League, captured D.C. United's "La Super Copa", with a thrilling penalty kick shootout victory over Real San Vicente from the Arlington Soccer League this past Saturday at the RFK Stadium Auxiliary Field. Volkswagen, Cox Communications and DC Lottery presented the fourth edition of "La Super Copa", a single elimination full side 11-v-11 invitational soccer tournament.

After the teams battled to a hard fought 2-2 draw at the conclusion of the 90-minute regulation, La Chapin prevailed in the deciding penalty kick shootout. It was the second Super Copa crown for La Chapin, who also won the 2007 Super Copa. In addition to the Cup, La Chapin received a cash prize of $5,000 while the runner-up Real San Vicente took home $2,000 and both teams received individual medals for each player on their 20-man roster.

"La Super Copa" tournament featured 16 elite adult teams from local amateur leagues and all participating teams received one MLS match ball and a full set of 20 new adidas team uniforms. All participating teams were required to have won the championship in their local league.

La Chapin had advanced to the final by defeating the Washington Athletic Club in the first round, the Dulles Sportsplex Aegean Hawks in the quarterfinals and Club Wilstermann in the semis. Meanwhile, Real San Vicente reached the championship game by eliminating CD Bata in the first round, CLI Paint Boys in the quarterfinals and Victoria in the semifinals.
