
L.A. Avengers trim roster to game-day limit

LOS ANGELES -- With their season opener rapidly approaching, the Los Angeles Avengers waived 11 players and placed six on the injured reserve list, trimming their active roster to the game-day limit of 20, head coach Ed Hodgkiss announced today.
The Avengers will kick off their sixth season in the 19-year-old Arena Football League on Sunday, Jan. 30, on the road against the Las Vegas Gladiators at the Thomas & Mack Center. Game time is set for noon (Pacific) and the contest will be televised live on KNBC Channel 4.
The 11 players waived by Los Angeles are: offensive specialist Ben Bronson, wide receiver/defensive back Aleric Clark, offensive/defensive lineman Asi Faoa, wide receiver/linebacker Lal Knight, offensive/defensive lineman Ken Kocher, fullback/linebacker Jeff Macrea, wide receiver/defensive back Chris Martin, fullback/linebacker Wes Ours, defensive specialist Traco Rachal, offensive/defensive lineman Bernard Riley and offensive/defensive lineman Johnathan Taylor.
The six Avengers who will spend at least the first two weeks of the 2005 season on the injured reserve list are: offensive specialist Khori Ivy, offensive/defensive lineman Fred Ray, offensive/defensive lineman John Schlecht, wide receiver/linebacker Rob Turner, quarterback Ryan Van Dyke and defensive specialist Damen Wheeler.
The Avengers will play their home opener at STAPLES Center versus the Georgia Force on Feb. 4. That game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. and be televised on FSN West.
The Avengers went 9-7 last season and qualified for the ArenaBowl Playoffs for the third consecutive year. Los Angeles led the AFL in scoring (56.5 points per game) and averaged 12,590 fans at STAPLES Center for eight home games.
