LOS ANGELES -- Defensive back Kevin Stanley has signed a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Avengers, head coach Ed Hodgkiss announced today. He inked a two-year contract that will keep him with the club through the 2008 season.
Stanley (6-0, 175) was a two-year starter at the University of Nevada (Reno, Nev.). As a senior in 2005, he was selected as a co-captain by his teammates and helped lead the Wolf Pack to their first winning record and bowl game appearance since 1996. Stanley started 11 games and finished with 45 tackles (including two for losses), 15 pass breakups and one interception. In addition, he was one of the top punt returners in the Western Athletic Conference with 22 returns for 219 yards. Stanley had 37 tackles and four interceptions as a junior in 2004.
He transferred to Nevada from Victor Valley College (Victorville, Calif.). Stanley had 864 all-purpose yards, 88 tackles, 20 pass breakups and eight interceptions while playing for the Rams in 2003. He earned All-Foothill Conference honors and was a second-team JC Gridwire All-America selection as an all-purpose player.
Stanley will be among 37 players participating in the Avengers' three-day mini-camp that begins on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the Avenger Training Facility at West Los Angeles College in Culver City.
The Avengers will kick off their eighth season of play in the 21-year-old Arena Football League versus the San Jose SaberCats on Sunday, March 4, at STAPLES Center. The contest, which features the past two Western Division champions (Los Angeles in 2005 and San Jose in 2006), will kick off at 7 p.m.
Avenger season tickets, which include nine games played at STAPLES Center, are on sale now at 1-888-AVENGERS or www.laavengers.com.
Single-game tickets will go on sale Saturday (Jan. 20) at 10 a.m. Avenger single-game tickets range in price from $10 to $69.50 and can be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com and the STAPLES Center box office.
