The Kitchener-Waterloo Titans Basketball Club is excited to announce the signing of Canadian PG Ashton Smith for the 2018-19 NBL Canada season.
"As a talented Canadian guard, Ashton brings a high level of experience and toughness to our back court," explained Titans Head Coach, Cavell Johnson. "As a former teammate of mine, I saw firsthand how passionate and focused Ashton is about his craft. He's a great teammate and is someone I can rely on to be a leader defensively, while being an aggressive play-maker on the offensive end."
Ashton Smith (6'2", 190 lbs), is a native of Scarborough, Ontario and a former NCAA Division II All-American at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2011-12. Smith is entering his 6th season of professional basketball, which has taken him to four continents, playing in Columbia, Germany, Indonesia, Canada, and the US during his time with the Raptors 905 of the NBA G-League in 2015-16. Smith most recently played for the 2017-18 NBL Canada champions, London Lightning, and is a former teammate of both Titans Head Coach, Cavell Johnson, and Titans PF/C Flenard Whitfield, who played together in 2014-15 as members of the Brampton A's.
"I'm excited to be a Titan and reunite with my former teammates," said Smith. "Flen (Whitfield) and I have become brothers over these past few years, so I can't wait to go to battle together this season. Cavell was always a great leader on and off the floor, and I understand the level of intensity he demands on the defensive end. I'm ready to be that defensive dog and play-maker for my teammates, and do everything I can to make us a contender."
