St. John's, NL - The St. John's Edge announced today that the club has signed Punjab, India native Satnam Singh to a one-year, NBL Canada contract.
Singh, 7-foot-2, 290 pounds is a former second round draft pick of the Dallas Mavericks. He appeared in 27 games for their G-League affiliate, the Texas Legends where averaged 1.5 points, 1.4 rebounds and 7.1 minutes per game. He shot .410 (16-for-39) from the field and .588 (10-for-17) at the free throw line.
Singh's journey to professional basketball was unique compared to most, leaving his town of 800 people at the age of 14, to pursue a basketball scholarship at the highly-touted IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
In 2015, Singh was the first Indian born player to be drafted by an NBA team, he was also the first player to enter the NBA draft without playing in college or overseas since 2005.
He has also represented his home nation of India on three occasions at the FIBA Asia Championships (2011,2013,2017).
