Dillard Ready to Make a Statement
January 9, 2022 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
KW Titans News Release
Davon Dillard a 6'5 ¬Â³ small forward from Gary, Indiana had a high-school following that many envy; his social media burst with followers watching his viral dunking videos.
He came out of high-school as a top-100 recruit in 2015; selected Oklahoma State to begin his college career. Coming from the Chicago area, adjusting to Oklahoma's culture wasn't easy, but everything on the court was going well. The Cowboys called him "a human highlight reel" making multiple appearances on the ESPN's SportCenter top 10s, including the #1 spot on Feb 4, 2017 in their game against West Virginia. And after 2 and a half up and down seasons at Oklahoma State, Dillard made his way to Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, where the HBCU culture fulfilled the need to belong off the court.
His first pro stop gave him 3 games with the Windsor Express until a separated shoulder pulled him off the roster, then the pandemic hit. Like so many other athletes, the pandemic sent his training and rehab into a spiral. Once ready to go, he landed a contract with the Cape Town Tigers of the Basketball Africa League in February 2020. Returning home in 2021, the Titans came knocking for him to rejoin the NBLC.
Dillard - "First and foremost I'm very excited for the opportunity to play ball again this season. This season is a statement year for me and a season for building and growing. That was a big part of my decision to join the KW Titans program. After numerous talks, and seeing how amazing and genuine staff and coaches are, I know it's the right next step for me. Any experiences I had previously in Canada showed me how very caring and genuine the community's fans are, having that support makes it a easy adapt into the new culture. Being a Chicago kid coming from a total different cycle that's important. I plan to bring my excitement with highlights and toughness on both ends of the floor as well a wining spirit to the Titans organization."
"Davon has achieved many accomplishments in his life and started his own Dillard24 brand in 2019. He's ready for the opportunity with us, and we are ready for his talent to push us to a new level."- Mel Kobe
