Kruger Backstops Tornado Over Corpus Christi, 3-1

Jimmy Kruger made 27 saves and the Texas Tornado won their 13th game in a row, 3-1, over the Corpus Christi IceRays at the Dr. Pepper Arena on Friday night. With the win, the Tornado improve to 15-2-3 (33 Points) overall while the IceRays fall to 7-10-2 (16 points) on the season.

Jonathan Sdao scored his third goal of the season and Pheonix Copley made 36 saves in the losing effort.

Texas tallied first, 5:03 into the opening period, when Mike Fleming (1) beat netminder Pheonix Copley after Copley thought he had covered the puck for a faceoff. Corpus Christi stemmed the tide from then on and equalized with 23 seconds left in first period when Jake Diamond's pass on an odd-man rush connected with Jonathan Sdao (3) who snapped one past the blocker of Jimmy Kruger. Colton Saucerman collected his second assist in as many games on the goal. The period ended with the teams tied at 1-1. The Tornado outshot the IceRays, 13-7.

The Tornado extended their lead for good to 3-1 in the second period on an even-strength goal from Michael Zagari (2) and a power-play goal from Jackson Leef (10) at the 3:11 and 16:25 respectively. Shots were 18-7 in favor of the Tornado.

Despite the IceRays getting two late power plays in the third period, Corpus Christi could not pull the deficit back and the Tornado won their 13th in a row, 3-1. Final shots were 39-28 for the Tornado.
