SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Traverse City North Stars got on the scoreboard early on in Friday's series-opener at Springfield, but it was the host Jr. Blues who go the last laugh, scoring the contest's final three goals in a 3-1 victory on Veteran's Appreciation Night at the Nelson Center.

Steve Behm (Grand Rapids, MI/Texas NAHL) racked his third goal of the year just 5:25 into the affair, collecting a rebound and driving the puck past Springfield netkeep Andrew Martin. Ryan Amin (Canton, MI/TC North Stars) delivered the initial shot as was credited with the assist. In the second period, the Blues scored early (:32 in) and late (:54 to go) to take a one-goal lead into the final intermission. A late insurance marker (1:31 remaining) made it a 3-1 final.

Tyler Marble (Howell, MI/TC North Stars/Lake Superior St.) made 26 saves for the North Stars, while Martin stopped 27 shots. The contest marked the Stars debut of former Traverse City West H.S. star Chris Dienes who had a pair of shots and an even plus-minus rating.

Traverse City (9-7-1) visits Springfield again on Saturday for the weekend finale before returning home for a big three-game series against North Division-leading St. Louis on Nov. 19-21 at Centre ICE Arena. That series, dubbed ‘North Stars Never Forget,' will honor past and present members of the U.S. Military, with the Stars sporting special camouflage jerseys that will be auctioned off. Proceeds benefit the Grand Traverse Area Veterans Memorial and Assistance Fund.
