Kissimmee Kreatures News Release

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – If you want score in close (to the red zone) in indoor football you need to go no further than Kissimmee. The Kreatures are tied for 1st in the National Indoor Football League in ‘red zone' offense and it makes head coach Marquette Smith pleased.

"If you don't convert in the closing yards, then you haven't done a very good job," said the former Carolina Panthers running back who knows the importance of "taking advantage of your opportunities."

Coach Smith, as he prepares for the ‘Mothers Day Special' game in Lakeland against the Thunderbolts oat 4 p.m. on Sunday, said conversions of ‘red zone' plays can also mean a psychological boost.

Kissimmee has converted 23 of 27 in the red zone, that's an 85.2 percent return for 23 touchdowns. Miami's Morays are tied with the Kreatures with exactly the same numbers, except they have scored two less TDs.

The Kreatures also are 3rd in passing defense, holding opponents to 133.3 yards a game. They have nine interceptions against opponents seven games into a 14-game schedule.

Derrick Coakley, a linebacker, tops Kissimmee defenders. His three fumble recoveries rank 1st in the league, but its quarterback sacks that the 7-year veteran is recognized for in indoor football.

Coakley has two sacks, five tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. His 18½ sacks in one indoor season is an all-time record.

Receiver, and better known for his 5-way play, James Panui went down at Casper, Wyoming, to a severe cut on his leg and will be out for a minimum of three weeks. He still ranks 5th in receiving yards per game (57.1) and is 7th in all-purpose yards (111.6 per game).

Panui is 9th in both receiving (29 for 400 yards, 6 TDs) and kick off returns (17 for a 20.8 average).
