San Diego Sockers News Release

San Diego forward Kraig Chiles was named PASL-Pro MVP as league awards were announced late on Tuesday. Chiles won the "Golden Boot" as the league's top goal scorer with 33, and his 45 points finished seven off the league's co-leaders (Eduardo Velez of Tijuana and Greg Howes of Tacoma). Chiles finished runner-up last season to Cincinnati midfielder Jeff Hughes but the two swapped places in the league voting this season.

"My teammates have done a great job setting me up all season, it's a team game and I really have to give them all the credit," said Chiles, "Down the stretch they were really looking for me and trying to feed me, it was just my job to score the goals."

In addition, Sockers head coach Phil Salvagio was named the PASL-Pro Coach of the Year after leading the Sockers to a regular-season record 14-2 season. Salvagio is 27-5 in two seasons on the Sockers' bench and is seeking his second league championship this weekend.

"Good players make good coaches," said a beaming Salvagio, who is also co-owner of the team, "I've got great players so they make me look real smart."

The Sockers placed five players on the all-league first and second teams, with Chiles being joined on the first team by defenders Dan Antoniuk (12 goals, 8 assists) and Ze Roberto (3 goals, 9 assists). Dan earned his second consecutive first-team honor while Ze earned his first. On the all-league second team, midfielder Diego Rovira (19 goals, 4 assists) was joined by goalkeeper Riley Swift (11-2, 4.92 GAA).

The Sockers are the top seed in the upcoming PASL-Pro North American Championships, which will take place from March 10th-12th at the Cincinnati Gardens. The Sockers receive a bye into the semi-finals, where they will face the winner between Mexico City and Calgary. Every game of the North American Championships will be seen live exclusively on 619Sports.Net, the Sockers' official broadcast partner.
