Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
BLOOMINGTON, IL- The Muskegon Lumberjacks trailed 3-0 and 4-1, but got three goals from Jachym Kondelik, overcoming both to beat the Central Illinois Flying Aces 6-5 in overtime on Friday at Grossinger Motors Arena.
Kondelik netted three-straight Lumberjack goals, completing the hat trick on a breakaway in overtime.
After Central Illinois scored the first three goals of the game before the contest was 13 minutes old, Muskegon's Emilio Pettersen got the Jacks on the board late in the first to make the score 3-1 after 20 minutes.
Central Illinois would get it right back on Calen Kiefiuk's second of the night that came just 27 seconds into period two. Trailing 4-1, Muskegon narrowed the lead to one by the end of the second on goals from Matej Pekar and Alex Yakovenko.
In the third, Kondelik took over, scoring first on the power play and then shorthanded, giving Muskegon a 5-4 lead with seven minutes to play.
The Aces would fight back to tie it with less than four minutes to play when Jacks forward Benito Posa cleared a rebound into the shin guard of oncoming forward Jeremy Davidson. The puck then banked into the Muskegon net past goaltender Zach Borgiel to tie the game at five.
In overtime, Vincent de Mey sprung Kondelik on a breakaway, and the 6-foot-7 center snapped a shot under the blocker of Aces goalie Ryan Snowden, winning the game for Muskegon, 6-5.
Kondelik tabbed an assist as well, notching his first-career four-point night. Pettersen, Mikael Hakkarainen, Yakovenko, Colby Bukes and de Mey all recorded multi-point games.
Anthony Del Gaizo recorded an assist, pushing his season total to 68 points. He leads the USHL scoring race by two points over Omaha's Filip Suchy. Hakkarainen has registered a point in 21 of his last 23 games.
The six-goal output matches a season-high for the Jacks, and they've now won three straight on the road.
Muskegon continues their road trip tomorrow in Madison, and have a chance at clinching home-ice advantage in the first round of the Clark Cup playoffs. With a win and any Dubuque loss, home ice would be locked up.
Puck drop is slated for 7:05pm, and the game will be carried live on 92.5 Nash Icon and HockeyTV.com.
