Komet Neumeier named UHL Best Defenseman

Fort Wayne, IN — The United Hockey League announced today (Monday, April 25, 2005) that Fort Wayne Komet's defenseman Troy Neumeier has been named UHL Best Defenseman for 2004-05 as selected by league head coaches, general managers and media members.

Neumeier, 34, led the UHL with a plus-47 rating while appearing in 78 games during the 2004-05 campaign. His +47 set a new plus/minus record for a Komet player in a UHL season.

The Langenburg, Saskatchewan native was selected by Vancouver in the 10th round of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft and is skating his 15th pro season and 4th in Fort Wayne. Neumeier was a member of the 2003 Colonial Cup champion Komets.

Neumeier's award marks the 3rd consecutive season the UHL Best Defenseman honor has gone to a Fort Wayne blueliner. Former Komet Kelly Perrault also was named Best Defenseman for the 2002-03 and 2003-04 UHL seasons.
