Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - United Soccer Leagues announced today that Portland Timbers defender Cameron Knowles was selected to the USL First Division Team of the Week for Week 9 for his performance in the team's 1-0 win over the Montreal Impact last week at PGE Park.
Knowles, 26, assisted the game-winning goal by Keith Savage in the 90th minute in a 1-0 victory over Montreal on June 4. He also aided in the Timbers' defensive efforts that held the Impact to just two shots to earn the team's fifth shutout of the season.
The third-year Portland defender previously earned USL First Division Team of the Week honors in Week 5, following the Timbers' shutout against the Cleveland City Stars on May 9.
The Timbers begin a series of three games in five days tonight as they face the Kitsap Pumas of the Premier Development League in the first round of the U.S. Open Cup in Bremerton, Wash., at 7 p.m. Live updates of Tuesday's U.S. Open Cup match will be available online at www.twitter.com/TimbersFC.
