Corvallis Knights News Release
Kyle Nobach slammed his second home run of the summer and Corvallis concluded its regular-season home schedule by thumping Gresham 10-2 before Pioneer & PEAK Internet Fireworks Night crowd of 2,971.
Nobach's (Oregon State) two-run blast was the hit in a five-run second inning. Matt Kelly (Portland) and Zak Taylor (OSU) also had RBI doubles in the frame, when the Knights erupted for six hits to snap a 1-1 tie and break the game open.
Taylor finished with two hits, a sacrifice fly and a season-high four RBIs. Andy Atwood (OSU) had two hits and two RBIs; Kelly doubled, singled and scored twice and Emilio Alcantar (Lewis-Clark State) had two hits, two runs and an RBI.
The Knights (39-19 overall, 32-19 WCL, 14-10 second half) extended their winning streak to eight games in row, their longest such streak of the summer. They are averaging more than six runs a game over that period.
Grant Goodman (San Francisco) pitched into the fifth and held the GreyWolves to one run and two hits before being relieved after 84 pitches. He struck out
six but did not go the required five innings to be credited with the win.
Jacob Fricke (Western Oregon) went the next 3.1 innings, allowing one run and three hits. He assumed the team lead in wins by improving to 5-0.
The Knights close the regular season against the Cowlitz Black Bears this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at David Story Field in Longview, Wash. The divisional round of the playoffs begins on Tuesday.
Yakima Valley clinched the other South Division playoff berth with Gresham's loss. Corvallis will face the Pippins at Yakima on Tuesday in Game 1 of the best-of-3 divisional playoff series. Game 2 will be at Corvallis on Wednesday, as will Game 3 on Thursday, if necessary.
