Corvallis Knights News Release
The Corvallis Knights open the home portion of the West Coast League season on Tuesday when they host longtime rival Wenatchee in a 7:15 p.m. game at Goss Stadium.
The Knights (3-5, 2-3 WCL), who completed a five-game WCL-opening road trip by splitting a doubleheader at Walla Walla on June 10, will be bolstered by the addition of future Oregon State shortstop Beau Philip to the roster.
A 6-foot-1, 185-pounder, Philip starred at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, Calif., the past two seasons. He will be a junior at OSU this fall, with two seasons of eligibility.
Philip hit .354 in 52 games for the Mustangs in 2018, with 18 doubles, four triples, 10 homers and 47 RBIs. He stole 30 bases in 32 attempts and earned Northern California JC all-state and Big 8 all-conference honors.
As a freshman, he hit .322 with nine doubles, three triples, three homers, 43 RBI and 18 stolen bases. He was named all-Big 8 Conference and all-Nor-Cal.
Philip is a native of El Dorado Hills, Calif., and was an all-league selection at Oak Ridge High School as a senior.
The Knights will feature xx returnees from last year's WCL championship team, led by catcher/infielder Zak Taylor and outfielder Elliot Willy of Oregon State, and Portland shortstop Chad Stevens.
Also back are pitchers Miles Glazier (UC Irvine), Connor Redmond (UC Riverside), Trevor Wells (LBCC), Kolby Somers (Oregon), Louie Crow (San Diego), Jacob Fricke (Western Oregon) and Cason Cunningham (Linfield).
"We might not hit for power like we did last summer, but we will be aggressive on the bases and I think we'll end up being really strong up the middle on defense and feature one of the league's top pitching staffs," 11th-year head coach Brooke Knight said.
"We're excited to make another run at things and hopefully be playing for something special for our fans in the postseason."
Several other players with local connections are on the team. Utah-bound utility Briley Knight, the Oregon 5A Player of the Year, is a full-time player. CV grads Corey Conklin (Eastern Kentucky) and James Anderson (WOU), Philomath High grad Austin Gerding (Chemeketa CC) and Harrisburg grad Logan Nousen (OIT) have signed 10-day contracts.
Tuesday's game begins a seven-game homestand. The Knights host Wenatchee on Wednesday and Thursday and Cowlitz on Friday through Sunday in WCL action, and the Gresham GreyWolves in a nonleague game on Monday.
