Battle Creek, MI - The Battle Creek Knights dropped their season opener to the Gary Steelheads 119-112 at Kellogg Arena on Thursday. It is a solid early-season road victory for the Steelheads, as both teams are expected to be among the league's best this season.
Clarence Matthews, a newcomer from Tennessee State, was simply outstanding for the Steelheads-scoring a team-high 28 points and snagging a game-high 16 rebounds. Benson Callier pitched in 20 points in the win. Roberto Fortes had a stellar debut for the Knights, finishing as the game's top scorer with a 35 point outing.
