Knights Offense Falls to Durham Pitching

FORT MILL, S.C. - July 5, 2009 - The Charlotte Knights couldn't solve Durham Bulls pitching as they were 5-1 losers to the visitors. Durham Bulls starting pitcher Wade Davis got things going, and his bullpen retired 14 straight Knights hitters to end the game.
Davis earned the win to improve to 8-4 on the season. Charlotte did get on the board first in the 3rd inning with an RBI single from rehabbing White Sox outfielder Carlos Quentin that scored Eider Torres. Quentin was 2 for 2 with a walk and one RBI in the second game of his rehabilitation assignment.
Durham All-Star Reid Brignac helped break open Durham's scoring with a solo home run in the 4th inning. Outfielder Justin Ruggiano also homered for the Bulls.
Knights starter Lucas Harrell took the loss to fall to 0-1. All six of the Knights hits came from Quentin, Torres and first baseman Brandon Allen.
The teams continue their series on Monday. LHP Wes Whisler (5-6, 3.82) gets the start for Charlotte. Durham will send LHP Carlos Hernandez (4-4, 3.68) to the mound. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
