Knights Lose Series Finale to Victoria
July 25, 2016 - West Coast League (WCL)
Corvallis Knights News Release
Kyle Nobach and Nick Kahle each doubled but otherwise Corvallis' bats were quiet in a 5-0 loss to Victoria in the rubber game of a series matching the WCL's first-half champions.
Kahle (Washington in 2017) doubled in the sixth; Nobach (Oregon State) just missed a homer when he lined his double off the top of the left-field fence in the eighth. However, both hits came with two outs and they were stranded at second base.
The Knights (31-18 overall, 24-18 WCL, 6-9 second half) were shut out for the seventh time this summer and for the second time at Goss Stadium. Victoria's (31-11, 8-7 second half) Blake Hannah and Cameron Schneider combined on a five-hitter, with Hannah going the first eight innings.
Corvallis starter Cameron Bishop (UC Irvine) allowed three two-out runs in the second inning and took the loss. He struck out seven in five innings. Cody Hoff (Linn-Benton CC) finished with two scoreless innings.
Andy Atwood (OSU), Roman Garcia (San Diego) and Matt Kelly (Portland) had OSU's other hits, all singles. The Knights left five runners on base, three in scoring position.
The Knights open a three-game homestand with Bend on Tuesday night. Grand Canyon right-hander Jacob Wong (3-2, 3.03) is Tuesday's scheduled starter for Corvallis.
It is a Bi-Mart $2 Tuesday, with $2 prices on Pepsi products, $2 peanuts, and $2 Cracker Jack.
