FORT MILL, S.C. - The Charlotte Knights (22-46) got thumped Saturday evening 9-0 by the Rochester Red Wings at Knights Stadium.

The stories of the game were the dominant pitching performance by Rochester starter RHP Steve Bechler and the porous defense by the usually sure-handed Knights.

Bechler (1-6) entered the game still searching for his first win of the season after losing his first six decisions of the year. The right-hander held the Knights scoreless on two hits in seven innings while striking out seven.

Charlotte starter RHP JON RAUCH (2-3) did not pitch poorly, but was hurt by a season-high four Knights errors. Rauch allowed seven hits and five runs in four innings, but just two of the runs were earned. RHP BILL SIMAS relieved Rauch and did not receive any better support from his teammates. In two innings of work, Simas gave up five hits and three runs, and again just two of the runs were earned.

The Knights will try to put their poor performance behind them when they take on the Red Wings again on Sunday at 2:15 at Knights Stadium. Charlotte LHP MIKE PORZIO (1-2, 6.86 ERA) will take the hill for the Knights against Rochester RHP JOHN STEPHENS (8-3, 2.15).
