March 16, 2019 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The Rochester Knighthawks will complete their two-game in two-night stretch tonight when they travel to Toronto to battle the Rock at 7:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Arena. The game has playoff implications for both teams as the Rock are fighting for first place in the East Division, while the Knighthawks are in the hunt for the division's fourth and final postseason spot.
Broadcast Info: The game will be broadcast on 107.3 The Bull and the iHeartRadio app. Fans can watch the contest on B/R Live.
Head-to-Head: The contest is the first of two between the longtime East Division rivals. Rochester leads the all-time series with a 29-25 record.
Scouting the Knighthawks: Last night, the Knighthawks came within one goal of knocking off the second-place Georgia Swarm but fell 15-14. In its first home game in three weeks, Rochester erased two five-goal deficits and pulled even twice in the fourth quarter. A trio of newcomers fueled the Knighthawks' comeback bid. Chris Boushy, who entered the game with 14 points in eight games, exploded for a career-high seven goals and two assists in his Rochester debut. Ryan Benesch, Dawson Theede and Mike Triolo, who were also making their Rochester debuts, all finished with one goal and one assist. For Theede, Triolo, and Cameron Simpson, the game also marked their professional debuts. Penn Yan, NY, native Mike Manley made his regular-season debut and played in his first home game as a Knighthawk. Goalie Warren Hill got his first start of the season and turned aside 35 shots. Jake Withers had a dominating effort, finishing one faceoff win shy of tying the single-game league record. Withers won 29 of 32 draws and scored his first goal of the season.
Player Moves: The Knighthawks were the biggest buyers and sellers prior to Monday's trade deadline. Newcomers to the lineup include prolific scorer Ryan Benesch, rising star Chris Boushy and young defenseman Rowan Kelly. As part of five deals, the Knighthawks acquired seven picks in exchange for Paul Dawson, Joe Resetarits, Ian Llord, Scott Campbell and Cory Vitarelli. The Knighthawks also signed defenseman Colton Armstrong, forwards Cameron Simpson, Mike Triolo and Dawson Theede, and activated defenseman Mike Manley. In related moves, Rochester moved forwards Austin Shanks, Stephen Keogh and Eric Fannell to the injured reserve list.
Milestone Watch:
- Ryan Benesch is one game shy of 200 in his career.
Scouting the Rock: Toronto (7-3) enters the game just one and a half games out of first place in the East Division. The Rock can become the third East Division team to lock up a playoff spot with a win and a Philadelphia loss vs. San Diego and a New England win vs. Vancouver. The Rock have dropped two straight games, which included a 15-9 setback to the Calgary Roughnecks on March 9. Toronto is led offensively by Tom Schreiber (57 points) and Rob Hellyer (52 points). Goalie Nick Rose is among the top netminders in the NLL, ranking fifth in saves (387) and save percentage (.786). Late this week, Toronto placed forward Adam Jones and defender Sheldon Burns on the Injured Reserve List and activated rookies Alec Tulett and Scott Dominey.
Next Game: The Knighthawks will return home to battle the Calgary Roughnecks on Saturday, March 23 at Connors & Ferris Field at The Blue Cross Arena. That night, the Knighthawks will host Knight of Beer from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. Fans can sample some local flavor from over a dozen breweries from around New York state.
