Rochester Knighthawks News Release

(Rochester, December 1)... Rochester Knighthawks draft choice Joel White spent a great deal of time giving back to the community while playing at Syracuse University. One of his stops each season was back in his hometown of Cortland, NY. It is no surprise then that White and former Syracuse teammate and Knighthawks draft pick Stephen Keogh will head back to Cortland to launch the Knighthawks' School Program on Friday, December 2nd.

"It's great to see Joel and Stephen taking their first step into professional sports as role models for young students," said Knighthawks President Lewis Staats. "The Knighthawks are very committed to supporting youth and we are also committed to encouraging them to stay in school. We are happy to be reaching out beyond Rochester and trying to encourage the fans in Cortland and Syracuse area to become Knighthawks fans and come out and enjoy our 'No Limits Lacrosse' action at The Blue Cross Arena."

The Knighthawks will visit two schools in the Cortland Enlarged City School District where Joel's mother, Maureen, is a physical education teacher. White and Keogh will make a 9:00 a.m. stop at Virgil Elementary School (1208 Church Street) to speak to kindergarten to sixth grade students before heading to F.E. Smith Elementary School (33 Wheeler Ave.) for a 1:45 p.m. event with third to sixth graders.

"Having the opportunity to go back to my home town and give back to the community by talking to children about the core values that I have learned through my experiences is not only a great opportunity but an honor," said Joel White, who was a child and family studies major. "Seeing my mom's passion for teaching and knowing how much she cares about these children it was an easy answer when she asked my teammates and I to come to her schools."

The theme of the presentations will center on respect and teamwork, which are two of the core values of the Knighthawks' School Program. The Knighthawks' program, or HEART, emphasizes Healthy living, being Active, Education, having Respect for others and Teamwork.

Orchestrated by a Knighthawks representative, the players, mascots or dance team members are eager to support students in their academic and athletic pursuits. The list of celebrities includes current Knighthawks players, Knighthawks Special Advisor to the President and former NHL Coach of the Year Ted Nolan, Amerks and Knighthawks Hall of Famer Jody Gage, and Knighthawks coaches... to name a few. If you are interested in having a Knighthawks player/representative at your school, please email Ben Cerow at ben.cerow@knighthawks.net or call (585) 454-HAWK (4295).

The Knighthawks will return to Rochester to host a home preseason game against the Minnesota Swarm on Saturday, December 17th at 7:00 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena.
