Minnesota Swarm News Release
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Minnesota Swarm will host its second training camp session this weekend from Friday, Dec. 2 through Sunday, Dec. 4 at Lakemount Sportsworld in Grimsby, Ontario.
The Swarm completed its first training camp session last weekend in Hagersville, Ontario and trimmed its roster down to 34 players after the first round of cuts.
"It was an ultra-competitive camp," coach Mike Lines said. "We've never been involved with anything as far as camp goes like what we went through last weekend."
The four-day camp at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena featured several inner-team scrimmages as well as an open tryout session during rookie camp. This weekend, the team will focus a majority of its time implementing sets on offense and defense.
"We will obviously be doing a lot of work again and it will be a really fast-paced schedule like always," Lines said. "But we will spend more time putting our systems and style of play into place this weekend."
Forward Ryan Benesch added, "We definitely need to have the same kind of effort as last week. We don't want to come into camp this week and take steps backward. We need to take steps forward and the only way to do that is to make sure we come in ready to compete."
Swarm Roster (34)
Forwards (11): Todd Baxter, Ryan Benesch, Jay Card, Callum Crawford, Aaron Grayson, Joel Henry, John McClure, Kevin Ross, Jamie Shewchuk, Pat Smith, Corbyn Tao.
Defensemen (12): Dan Ball, Mitch Belisle, Nik Bilic, Michael Brascia, Joe Cinosky, Kiel Donahue, Brendon Doran, Jeff Gilbert, Brian Karalunas, Matt Kelly, Noah Talbot, Joe Wasson.
Transition (7): Shayne Bennett, Greg Downing, Tyler Hass, Jordan MacIntosh, Rich Morgan, Andrew Suitor, Andrew Watt.
Goalies (4): Tyler Carlson, Drew Dickie, Evan Kirk, Nick Patterson.
The Minnesota Swarm begins its eighth season of play in the NLL on Saturday, Jan. 14 on the road against the Colorado Mammoth at 8 p.m. CT. The Swarm hosts the Buffalo Bandits on Treasure Island Field at Xcel Energy Center for its home opener on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. CT.
