Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Knighthawks General Manager Jody Gage announced today that the team has re-signed forward John Grant to a two-year contract. Grant is the team's all-time leader in goals, assists and points.
Last season, Grant led Rochester to its second league title. In the process, he was the 2007 Dodge Nitro Most Valuable Player and the NLL Championship Game MVP. He scored three goals and added five assists in the Knighthawks' 13-11 win over Arizona in the championship game.
Grant was the league's most prolific scorer in 2007, leading the NLL in both goals scored (51) and total points (111). His 60 assists also ranked second in the league this season, tied with Arizona's Dan Dawson. Grant anchored the Knighthawks' powerful offense, which scored a league best 249 goals in 2007.
The veteran forward scored 14 of his goals on the power play, helping the league's best power-play unit which converted on nearly 60 percent of its chances. On the penalty-killing unit, Grant scored five shorthanded goals (tied for the league lead with Bill McGlone of Chicago and Jeff Moleski of Calgary). Grant also collected 81 loose balls in 2007.
The Peterborough, Ontario, native was also pegged as a member of the NLL's First Team All-Pro squad. Grant has now been honored as a league All-Pro seven times in his career. He is also fifth all-time in league history in points (719) and goals (347), and seventh in assists (372). The 2007 All-Pro selection is the fifth First Team All-Pro honor of Grant's career and seventh overall All-Pro selection as he also previously won second team honors twice.
Grant currently leads the Major League Lacrosse Rochester Rattlers with 37 goals and 52 points.
