Buffalo Bandits News Release

BUFFALO, N.Y. (July 30, 2007) --- Buffalo Bandits Director of Lacrosse Operations Dave Zygaj announced today the team has re-signed forward John Tavares to a one-year contract. The National Lacrosse League's all-time leading scorer and three-time league MVP will be entering his 15th season with Buffalo.

Tavares is the NLL's all-time leader in points (1,239) and assists (648), and he is now just six goals shy of breaking Gary Gait's all-time mark of 596. He is the Bandits' franchise leader in every major offensive category, and he has led the team in scoring in every season in franchise history except 1992 and 1998.

"We are delighted to have John back in a Bandits uniform this season," Zygaj said. "His offensive skills speak for themselves, and we'll continue to count on John for his veteran presence both on and off the field."

Tavares, 38, led the NLL in assists (61) and game-winning goals (5) last season, while his 103 points ranked him fourth overall in league scoring. For his efforts Tavares was named an NLL First Team All-Pro for the 13th time in his career. Tavares' 103 points was the third-highest single-season total in Bandits history, and marked the fourth time in his career that he's scored 100 points in a season. Tavares remains the only Bandits player to ever reach the century mark in a single season.

The native of Mississauga, Ontario, matched his single-game high with a pair of 13-point efforts last season, including a 10-assist performance on January 20 against Minnesota tying his team record for assists in a game. On March 24, Tavares scored a career-high seven goals in a 19-15 win over the Colorado Mammoth.
