Rochester Knighthawks News Release

The Rochester Knighthawks fell just short tonight at the First Niagara Center, dropping a 14-12 decision to the Buffalo Bandits.

"We were kind of chasing in the first quarter, but after that we started settling and playing our game," said Knighthawks head coach Mike Hasen. "We had our chances and we had a lot of opportunities. (The new guys) stepped up and played well. Overall the effort was great."

Rochester was led offensively by Dan Dawson, who posted two goals and five assists. Cody Jamieson connected for five points (3+2), while Joe Walters (1+3) and Stephen Keogh (0+4) chipped in four-point efforts. Rochester battled back the entire game as it erased two four-goal deficits.

The first Knighthawks' run came in the second quarter. Rochester ended the first 30 minutes of play by scoring five of the game's last six goals. Cody Jamieson's goal with two seconds to play tied the contest at six. The first half was highlighted by Josh Gillam's first goal as a Knighthawk and Ty Thompson's first professional goal. Brad Gillies tallied his first pro goal with 20 seconds to play in third quarter to get Rochester within one at 9-8.

"I think I just had to get the first game jitters out of the way," said Thompson. "I was prepared this game and it was an unreal experience. It stinks that we didn't come out with the win, but it was a fun game and I felt good out there. Words can't even explain how (scoring) felt. Growing up as a kid, I was always going to Knighthawks games dreaming about that first goal and to be able to get that was awesome."

"It was a great feeling. This is a great organization," said Gillam. "I'm proud to be a part of it. To be a part of the lineup my first game in is an exciting feeling. I would have like to get a couple more (goals) for the win but it was definitely nice to get the first one off my back."

"It was definitely a nerve-wracking experience stepping out on the floor," said Gillies. "I've never played in front of 16,000 people before in that kind of arena, but once I settled in I felt fine. To get that first goal it was a great feeling. I think it was a big goal at that point in the game. Hearing the silence of that crowd was really neat."

Rochester's second rally came early in the fourth quarter, as the Knighthawks stormed back with four goals in a span of 3:19 to tie the contest at 12. Quinn Powless started the surge with his second goal as a Knighthawks at 4:11. Walters and Brad Self followed suit and Jamieson tied the contest at 7:29 off a great individual effort.

"We need to take care of our business at home. It's paramount for us right now," Hasen said. "We're home for the next three game so we'll see what happens there."
