The Rochester Knighthawks used five power-play goals to knock off the Philadelphia Wings 10-6 tonight at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena (ILA). Rochester improves to 1-0 in the preseason while the Wings fall to 0-2.
The Knighthawks blitzed the Wings in the fourth quarter, scoring three power-play goals to break a 6-6 tie. Rochester also got a shorthanded marker to end the contest on a 4-0 run. Special teams accounted for 60 percent of the Knighthawks' offense.
Rochester used a balanced offensive effort, receiving goals from nine different players. Cody Jamieson (1+3), Kyle Jackson (1+3) and Pat Saunders (1+3) led the way with four-point efforts, while Joe Resetarits chipped in with two goals and one assist.
The Knighthawks shuffled guys in and out of the lineup at half, including their goalies. Starter Angus Goodleaf played the entire first half, yielding five goals. Warren Hill, who was signed Tuesday, came in and blanked the Wings in the third quarter and gave way to rookie Nick Damude in the fourth. The third-round pick gave up an early goal but shut out Philadelphia over the final 14 minutes.
The Knighthawks will conclude their preseason slate on Sunday, Dec. 9, when they battle the Georgia Swarm at 1:00 p.m. at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre (TRAC).
