Rochester Knighthawks News Release
*(Rochester, NY)...* The Rochester Knighthawks announced their 2012 National Lacrosse League schedule today and it features two games against the rival Buffalo Bandits and the return of Rochester's all-time leading scorer John Grant Jr. when the Colorado Mammoth visit The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial.
The Knighthawks will open their 18th season on Saturday, January 14th in Philadelphia against the East Division Wings. The Knighthawks will open the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, January 21st against the rival Buffalo Bandits at 7:30 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena.
"Lacrosse fans will be treated to 'no limits' excitement this season as the Knighthawks try to bring a third NLL championship back to Rochester. With the talent we have and the commitment from the players, ownership and the staff, this could be one of the most memorable seasons in team history," said Knighthawks President Lewis Staats.
Rochester is coming off its most successful season since the 2007 championship campaign. The Knighthawks finished in a three-way tie for first place and lost to the eventual champion Toronto Rock in the playoffs. Not to mention, that the team set a franchise record by winning six individual awards, while also placing one player on All-Rookie Team and two on the First Team All-Pro team. Owner and General Manager Curt Styres was rewarded for his success on and off the field by becoming the first person to win the NLL's Executive of the Year and the General Manager of the Year in the same season.
The Knighthawks improved their lineup last Friday, adding steady defensemen Mike Kirk and Jack Reid to a defense backstopped by back-to-back NLL Goalie of the Year Matt Vinc. The Knighthawks also took a gamble by drafting 2010 NLL MVP Casey Powell in last Friday's draft. The offense returns NLL All-Rookie Team member Cody Jamieson, veterans Shawn Williams and Mike Accursi, and young stars like Jordan Hall, Shawn Evans, Craig Point, Cory Vitarelli, Jarrett Davis and Joe Walters.
As a season ticket holder, fans will have the opportunity to see the Knighthawks host seven different opponents in 2012: Toronto, Buffalo, Philadelphia, Washington, Colorado, Minnesota and Calgary. The schedule features one home game in January, two in February, three in March and two in April.
