Knighthawks Hit the Road to Face New England

January 7, 2015 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release

The Rochester Knighthawks will hit the road on Saturday, January 10th as they take on the New England Black Wolves at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Fans can watch the 7:00 p.m. game on www.universalsports.com. The radio broadcast is available on 105.5 The Team and online on theteam.fm.

The game is the first of three meetings between the East Division foes. New England (1-0) is playing its second straight home game to kick off its inaugural season after hosting Buffalo on January 2nd. Saturday's game is the only road trip of the month for the Knighthawks, who play three of their first four on their home turf.

"This weekend is another opportunity for us to get better," said forward Cody Jamieson. "We are going to be focused, prepared and ready to play Knighthawks lacrosse."

Rochester (0-1) enters the game with a chance to pull into a tie for first place in the East Division with a win. On January 3rd, the Knighthawks opened their season and were led offensively by 2014 MVP Cody Jamieson. "Jammer" scored two goals and dished out six assists to move him into sixth place on the team's all-time points list (343). Dan Dawson, who was playing in his 198th straight game, registered two goals and four assists. Cory Vitarelli also chipped in four points (3+1), while Craig Point (2+1), Aaron Wilson (1+2) and Jordan Hall (1+2) each added three-point efforts.

Rochester showcased its dynamic offense by scoring nine goals in the first half, which included three goals in a 1:57 span in the second quarter. Head Coach Mike Hasen will look for that kind of production on Saturday from his veteran offense.

"When we get everybody contributing, we move the ball and move our feet, and are touching corners on every shift, opportunities come for everybody," said Hasen.

Several Knighthawks are closing in on milestones. Point, who is in his seventh season with the Knighthawks, is now just one point away from 200 as a Knighthawk. After his one-goal, one-assist outing last Saturday, Joe Walters needs just three assists to hit the 100-assist plateau in his career. Even more impressive, Dylan Evans has the opportunity to move past a Knighthawks' Hall of Famer on Saturday. The defenseman needs just three faceoff wins to move in front of Tim Soudan and into fourth place on the team's all-time list with 317 victories.

The game will also feature a showdown between brothers Mike and Evan Kirk. Older brother Mike is an assistant captain for the three-time defending champion Knighthawks, while Evan is the starting goalie in New England. The Orangeville natives have gone head-to-head for the past four seasons. The last time they faced each other, Mike and the Knighthawks defeated Evan and Philadelphia 11-7 on March 16, 2014.

After this weekend's game, Rochester will be back home at Connors & Ferris Field at The Blue Cross Arena on Saturday, January 24th in a rematch against the Toronto Rock. Fans can purchase tickets by calling the Knighthawks front office at (585) 454-4295.
