Knighthawks Have a Chance to be Kids Again
April 2, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release
Kids of all ages spent the afternoon with their favorite Rochester Knighthawks players on Saturday at Total Sports Experience. Following the Knighthawks' afternoon contest at The Blue Cross Arena, the players, dance team, mascot and staff entertained fans from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at their practice facility.
Nearly 100 kids tackled the obstacle course and jumped around in the 5-in-1 bounce house on indoor field 3. Knighthawks players even donned power packs and guns to take on kids in games of laser tag. Players like 19-year-old Johnny Powless and 29-year-old Travis Hill ducked into the inflatable arena to earn laser tag bragging rights. If that wasn't enough, the Knightingales treated little girls to an impromptu dance clinic on the turf.
"The Knighthawks' staff did a great job organizing this event. The kids are having a great time," said Knighthawks forward Jarrett Davis during the Kids Fest. The event was made possible with the donation of turf time by Total Sports Experience and its General Manager Jamie Hammond.
Fans could also visit face painters, hairstylists, and meet with individual players for autographs. Six kids also won a life-sized player cutout as part of the Kids Fest raffle. Knighthawks rookie Joel White rewarded a winner with his poster and posed for a photo. White, 22, had a great time, which included a game of laser tag.
"It was well run by everyone involved and was a lot of fun interacting with all the fans," said White, who is one of three local community ambassadors for the Knighthawks.
Fans also expressed their satisfaction with the Knighthawks' inaugural Kids Fest.
"Thank you Knighthawks for a great afternoon. The kids had a blast in the bounce house, laser tag and the basketball!! It was clear a lot of work went into planning and organizing the event and it was a ton of fun," wrote Jean Rowley, from Brockport Lacrosse, on the team's Facebook page. "My boys stayed 'til the bitter end and the cherry was that my boy brought home the poster of one of his favorite players...he's been trying to win it since the ticket system was implemented. Now, we have two of these huge posters in his room and Tyler Burton now has company in Matt Vinc."
The Knighthawks return to action on Friday, April 6th at 9:00 p.m. EST when they take on the Calgary Roughnecks. Rochester's next home game is set for Saturday, April 14th at 7:30 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. The first 5,000 fans will receive a Newman bobblehead.
