Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, NY) - On Saturday, January 9th, the Rochester Knighthawks will make history as they broadcast their home and season opener against the Buffalo Bandits on 94.1 The Zone (WZNE). It will mark the first time the team will broadcast a game on a commercial FM radio station. The Knighthawks and the Stephens Media Group announced today a two-year deal with the National Lacrosse League club, adding the 'Hawks to their powerful radio lineup.
"We want the Knighthawks action to be available to as many of our fans and sponsors as possible," said Knighthawks President Lewis Staats. "Our new partnership with The Zone on the FM dial will allow this to happen and hopefully expose the Knighthawks to some new fans and sponsors along the way who will support the team as we build towards our third NLL championship for the city of Rochester."
"We look forward to a great partnership with the Knighthawks. Broadcasting the games is a perfect complement to our regular programming of New Rock," said General Manager of WZNE Mike Ninni. "Knighthawks fans are passionate and we're thrilled to be a part of the excitement!"
The Zone, Rochester's New Rock First, airs a modern rock music format branded as "The Zone @ 94.1." The Zone is a member of the Stephens Media Group, which is a Tulsa, Oklahoma, based media group that owns radio stations in small to mid-size markets. The Stephens Media Group stations in Rochester include 94.1 The Zone, Fickle 93.3 FM and WARM 101.3 FM, and are based at 28 East Main Street in downtown Rochester.
Rochester will make its debut on 94.1 FM on Saturday, January 9th at 8:05 p.m. The Zone and thezone941.com will carry 13 games live and the three Friday night games on a tape-delayed basis during the 2010 season.
The broadcasts will feature a 15-minute pregame show, which will include pregame analysis, a team-by-team breakdown and a "Coach's Corner" segment. Fans can also listen to the halftime interviews with Knighthawks players and stick around after the game for postgame interviews with players and coaches on each broadcast. Play-by-play broadcaster Craig Rybczynski returns for his ninth season behind the microphone.
