Rochester Knighthawks News Release

The last time the Rochester Knighthawks hosted the New England Black Wolves at Connors & Ferris Field, the two teams combined for 30 goals. Tonight's contest did not take on a similar posture, as the two teams were locked in a defensive struggle.

The Knighthawks limited the Black Wolves to 10 goals and got a 39-save effort from Matt Vinc, but were edged 10-8 by New England. It was a hard-fought battle throughout as the contest was tied five times during the final game of the home-and-home series.

The Knighthawks erased an early three-goal deficit and caught up quickly in the second, tying the game about halfway through the quarter. From then on, it became a battle of bounces.

"That's what this league is about," said Knigththawks head coach Mike Hasen. "We just couldn't capitalize on a few things, but a bounce here and a bounce there makes it a totally different game. We had a good effort here tonight. We just have to take that and move forward with it and when we get back here we just have to move forward."

Rochester was led offensively by Dan Dawson, who posted four points (2+2). Brad Self extended his scoring streak with two goals, while adding one assist. Cody Jamieson, Ian Llord and Scott Self also collected single goals and an assist, while Stephen Keogh finished with one tally.

"I grew up playing offense when I was younger and obviously with the guys we have playing up front it makes it easier," said Brad Self. "I was just trying to get open. It's nice to be able to contribute and put the ball in the back of the net."

In the third quarter, Jamieson joined elite company as he became just the third Knighthawks player to put up 500 career points, joining Shawn Williams and John Grant Jr. Dawson also moved into sixth place on the team's all-time assists list, as he passed Cory Bomberry. Dawson was clutch in the fourth quarter as he scored at 9:14 to tie the game at eight.

The Knighthawks have their last bye-week next weekend before taking on their division rivals, the Buffalo Bandits, on April 9th at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo.

Both Hasen and the players say that this week is going to play a key role in getting the players rested and ready to go for what will be a busy stretch to end the season. Rochester (6-7), which sits in third place after this weekend, will play four of the remaining five games of the season against divisional opponents.

"This week is going to be good for us," said Hasen. "We're going to come back in a couple of weeks and be a heck of a lot better. It's going to be huge going down there off of the bye-week. We'll get back at it in a week here. The best thing for us is to make sure we're healthy and this will help."
