July 16, 2020 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, NY) - Rochester Knighthawks General Manager and Vice President of Lacrosse Operations Dan Carey announced today that the team has re-signed veteran defenseman Jay Thorimbert to a one-year contract for the 2020-21 National Lacrosse League season, pending league approval.
"Jay was great for us last season. He was a voice and an all-around leader for our younger core of players and played a major role on the turf for us. His experience is invaluable as we continue to build our team culture and competitiveness heading into next season," said Carey.
Thorimbert, 34, completed his 13th NLL season with the Knighthawks in 2019-20, scoring one goal and recording 64 face-off wins despite appearing in only six games. He became the NLL's all-time leader in face-off wins back on Dec. 21 in Halifax when he recorded his eighth face-off win of the night to surpass Geoff Snider for the most in league history, ultimately concluding the season with 2,516 career face-off wins.
In his pro career, the Whitby, Ontario, native has amassed 107 points (41+66) over 180 appearances with Rochester, Toronto, New England, Buffalo, Minnesota and Boston. His best season came during the 2017 campaign when he established career-highs in goals (7), assists (8) and points (15) on his way to earning All-Pro Second Team honors as a member of the Black Wolves.
Originally Buffalo's second-round selection (24th overall) in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft, the 6-foot-0, 199-pound defenseman attended the University of Guelph, where he was a four-year captain and a three-time Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association (CUFLA) All-Canadian. During the 2008 season, Thorimbert led the Gryphons to the Begattaway Cup and was named the CUFLA Most Valuable Player in addition to the Most Valuable Midfielder.
