Knighthawks Announce Under Armour Youth Lacrosse Camps
March 20, 2015 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The Rochester Knighthawks have partnered with Under Armour © to roll out their 2015 Summer Lacrosse Camp Program. Previously known as Rochester Youth Camps, the Rochester Knighthawks Under Armour © Youth Lacrosse Camps will continue to provide kids with world-class instruction under the guidance of Camp Director Joe Walters.
Walters is one of the most successful players to ever come out of Rochester. The four-time college All-American is in his seventh season with the Knighthawks and has won three straight Champion's Cups.
"To take over as camp director is special. I am excited to continue the excellence that was established at the previous years' camps," said Walters. "It's pretty unique for me because I was in their shoes (when I was a kid). I dreamt of playing for the Knighthawks. It will be cool to help kids reach their goal of playing for the Knighthawks one day."
This summer, the roster of Knighthawks stars at the camps will include Jordan Hall, Matt Vinc and Brad Self. Returning as camp instructors are Andrew Whipple and Mark Thering. Whipple is a former National Lacrosse League and Major League Lacrosse player and the current Varsity head lacrosse coach for the Pittsford Central School District. Thering serves as the assistant boys' lacrosse coach at Webster Schroeder. Katelyn Faas will return to run the girls camp. The Rochester native was a national champion at the University of Maryland and is currently the women's lacrosse head coach at Hilbert College.
The first Rochester Knighthawks Under Armour © Boys Lacrosse Camp will take place at McQuaid Jesuit High School from Monday, June 29th to Thursday, July 2nd. The second Knighthawks Camp is set for Monday, July 20th to Thursday, July 23rd at Victor Dryer Road Park. Full-day and half-day camp options are available with registration open to players ages 6-15.
The Knighthawks Under Armour © Youth Lacrosse Camps for girls is scheduled from Monday, August 3rd to Thursday, August 6th at McQuaid Jesuit High School. Full-day and half-day camps are open to players ages 6-15.
For attending the camps, kids will receive a free Under Armour © lacrosse head, a reversible Under Armour © pinney, a ticket to a 2016 Knighthawks home game and top-level instruction from world-class players and staff. The camp also offers special sessions for goalies.
The camps will place a heavy focus on skill development through passing, shooting and ball-handling, in addition to conditioning and team-building exercises. Every day ends with a scrimmage so players can use the fundamentals they learned in game situations.
