KiXX Defeat Ignition To Win MISL Championship

(Plymouth, Mich., April 21, 2007) - In front of the tenth consecutive sellout crowd at Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth, MI, the expansion Detroit Ignition was defeated by the Philadelphia KiXX for the Major Indoor Soccer League Championship Final in front of a nationally televised audience on the VERSUS Network. The game-winning goal was scored at the 2:30 mark of the third quarter of play by Philadelphia midfielder Ptah Myers. Congratulations to the 2007 MISL Champion Philadelphia KiXX.

Player/coach Don D'Ambra opened the game's scoring with the only goal of the opening frame of play and his third goal of the playoffs, a two-pointer at 9:09 to put the KiXX in control 2-0.

Just 1:11 into the second quarter, KiXX forward John Nusum registered a two-point goal to further the Philadelphia lead to 4-0. Philadelphia target forward Shawn Boney registered his first goal of the Championship at 5:31 to bring the score to a 6-0 KiXX advantage. After a hand ball in the crease by Ignition defender Josh Rife, defender Genoni Martinez registered a two-point penalty kick goal at 12:44 to put the KiXX up 8-0. The Ignition finally got on the board at 14:46 with a two-point goal from defender Bill Sedgewick off the pass from Hewerton as the KiXX held an 8-2 lead at the end of the first half.

The third quarter began in the same way of much of the first half with a two-point goal from KiXX midfielder Ptah Myers at 2:30 as Philadelphia's lead grew to 10-2. All-MISL Second Team defender Jonathan Greenfield registered his first goal of the playoffs, a two-pointer at 3:58 to bring Detroit closer at 10-4. After a brief delay in action, MISL MVP Jamar Beasley kept the Ignition momentum going with a two-point goal at 9:13 to bring Philadelphia's lead down to 10-6. Beasley registered his second goal of the quarter, another two-pointer, at 10:56 on the power play to bring the KiXX lead down to just 10-8 at the end of the third quarter of the MISL Championship.

D'Ambra floated a three-pointer over Sanaldo for three points to put the KiXX in front and secure the 13-8 victory.

Ignition goalkeeper Sanaldo stopped 11 of 17 shots on the day and earned the loss in his second consecutive MISL Championship appearance ...KiXX player/coach Don D'Ambra led all scorers with five points on the night and was named the game's Most Valuable Player...Today's contest ended the 2006-07 MISL season with the tenth consecutive sellout and 13 of 17 overall.
