Philadelphia KiXX News Release

Plymouth, MI, April 21, 2007 - Don D'Ambra, Peter Pappas, Pat Morris, Shawn Boney, Edgar Bartolomeu, and Drew Kopp, along with assistant coach Adam Bruckner, will collect their second MISL Championship rings as members of the Philadelphia KiXX after the club defeated the Detroit Ignition in the 2007 MISL Championship today, 13-8. The KiXX won the second title in franchise history (2001-02) in front of a sellout crowd at the Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth, Michigan. D'Ambra and Pappas, two players who have been with the club since it's inception in 1996, led Philadelphia as they have for the past 11 years, in a season where Pappas was named Goalkeeper-of-the-Year and D'Ambra to the All-MISL First Team.

Player/coach D'Ambra began scoring 9:09 into the first quarter with his third goal of the post season. The KiXX regular season scoring leader was recently named to the All-MISL First Team, after capping off a 32 goal regular season. John Barry Nusum, the hero from last Saturday's Golden Goal, put the KiXX up 4-0 just 1:11 into the second frame, his third of the postseason. Philly's hot start continued with Shawn Boney's first of the post season, a back heel rebound with his back to the net after a Casey Barton shot, putting the KiXX ahead 6-0. The game was the 250th of Boney's 10-year career.

With Sanaldo out of the net, Sandre Naumoski took a shot that Ignition defender Josh Rife stopped with his hand, resulting in a two-minute penalty. On the ensuing penalty shot, Genoni Martinez buried his third goal of the playoffs. Martinez, recently named the MISL Defender-of-the-Year, went 4-4 in penalty shots this regular season. Martinez was also on a 17 game point streak before last weeks Golden Goal session. Bill Sedgewick finally put Detroit on the board. The KiXX took an 8-2 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Ptah Myers and the KiXX came out firing in the second half, stretching Philadelphia's lead to eight on Myers' second of the post-season. Second Team All-MISL standout Jonathan Greenfield gave Detroit their second of the night, cutting into the KiXX lead, 10-4. Jamar Beasley, the MISL MVP, would go on to score his first two goals of the postseason, giving Detroit three unanswered goals and pulling the Ignition to within two points.

D'Ambra would provide the KiXX with some much needed breathing room on a three-point goal after Sanaldo mishandled a ball at midfield. Philadelphia fended off a barrage of shots with Novi as 6th attacker to clinch the title. Pappas stopped 14 of 18 shots, and the KiXX defense blocked 21 shots in the game.
