Kinston Nips the Nationals 6-4

The K-Tribe bats busted out early, as Kinston beat Potomac 6-4 in a noon start in Woodbridge, Virginia. The Indians got to Potomac starter Joe Norrito in the first inning with five consecutive singles. Jared Goedert, Carlos Rivero and Niuman Romero each had RBI hits to put Kinston up 3-0. The K-Tribe added on in the third inning when Nick Weglarz walked and Goedert drove him in with an RBI double. Romero drove in Goedert with an RBI sacrifice fly to put Kinston up 5-0. Johnny Drennen added a solo home run in the fourth inning, his first homer of the season, to finish the scoring for Kinston.
The K-Tribe belted 12 hits in the game. Goedert and Rivero each had three hits for Kinston. Niuman Romero, a day after his 21 game consecutive hit streak came to an end, went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Beau Mills went 1-for-5 on the day, extending his hit streak to 15 games.
Kinston starter Kelvin De La Cruz (1-0) made an impressive Carolina League debut, going 5 1/3 innings and giving up just three earned runs. The 20-year-old De La Cruz gave up five hits and struck out six, getting called up from Low A Lake County just one day ago.
Kinston will end their four game series with Potomac Thursday night in Virginia. Carlton Smith takes the mound for Kinston, game time 7:05pm.
