KINSTON - The Kinston Indians Home Run Reading Challenge is a hit in local elementary and middle schools. Schools in Lenoir, Craven, Jones and Pamlico counties are teaming up with the K-Tribe to promote student reading.

The Home Run Reading Challenge awards students with free K-Tribe tickets and other prizes based on books read. The Home Run Reading Challenge started in April and runs through the end of the school year.

"We think it is important to promote literacy in our local schools," said K-Tribe General Manager Shari Massengill. "The Home Run Challenge is a fun way to reward our students for reading."

The K-Tribe started a reading program in Lenoir County last year and is thrilled to have the updated Home Run Challenge in more schools for 2008. Coastal Children's Clinic, Bojangles, Swing Zone, Chick-fil-A and Kinston's Parks and Recreation Department are all proud sponsors of the program. With a successful 2008 campaign, the K-Tribe hopes to expand the program to other counties next year.

The K-Tribe returns home for an eight game homestand this Thursday, May 8th - 15th. Go to www.kinstonindians.com for tickets, game times and more information, or call 252-527-9111.
