Kings Have Rights to Rees

Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release

LUBBOCK, TX – Lubbock Cotton Kings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Chris Dashney announced today the acquisition of Rio Grande Valley defenseman and captain, Mike Rees.

"Mike (Rees) is a leader and competitor," said Dashney. "He was tied for the lead in plus/minus on Rio Grande last season with a plus-19. Acquiring the rights to Mike is a positive step for our organization and team."

The Kings traded the rights of Matic Kralj to the expansion Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees last summer for future considerations. The Kings currently have the rights to Rees, and signing him will be the next step for Dashney.

Rees was on the 2002-03 Austin Ice Bats team that won the Governor's Cup for the best record in the regular season. That post-season, the Bats advanced to the Ray Miron President's Cup finals before losing to the Memphis Riverkings.

Rees and the Bees made the playoffs in the 2003-04 season before losing to the eventual cup-winning Laredo Bucks. In seven years as a pro, Rees has made the playoffs every season.

As per Central Hockey League policy, teams retain the rights to all of their players at the end of the season. CHL teams have the right to sign or trade any player on the current roster.
