Kingfish Win First Game in Double Header at Lakeshore

Kenosha Kingfish News Release

Mequon, Wis. - The Kingfish, by every definition of the word, are alive. Whether it is by the production of their hitting, the performance of their pitching, or the fact they still have a chance to win the Northwoods League South Division title, the Kingfish are without a doubt still in the hunt after defeating the Lakeshore Chinooks 6-1 Tuesday afternoon.

In the first game of a home and home double header, P.J. Schuster took the mound for the Kingfish at Kapco Park, just off the shores of Lake Michigan. Taking a no hitter into the fourth inning, Schuster had a marvelous performance as he finished with just one run allowed off of five hits in six innings of work. Relieving J.R. Holloway after a brief appearance, J.D. Nielsen finished the seventh inning off without allowing a hit, to take the Kingfish into the final stretch. E.J. Trapino was called upon to finish the job, and he shut the Chinooks out through the final two innings while only allowing one hit and striking out three.

Offensively, the Kingfish found success as well. The scoring started with a RBI groundout by Jeremy Vasquez in the first frame. The Kingfish would follow with a run in each of the next two innings as Jason Scholl homered to right in the second and Zach Ratcliff singled another run home in the third. The Kingfish would put up three more runs of insurance in the ninth inning as a wild pitch scored Zach Weigel and a RBI single by Ratcliff right up the middle brought in Eric Filia and Vasquez. Aside from a RBI double hit by Lucas Raley in the sixth, the Chinooks had no answer.

The Kingfish finished the afternoon affair by collecting twelve hits. Ratcliff finished 3-4 with three RBI and Filia went 3-5 with two runs scored. The Kingfish will play again tonight, back in Kenosha, for the double-header and series finale. With Green Bay claiming victory over the Wisconsin Woodchucks earlier today, the Kingfish will need another win and a Bullfrog defeat to take the first-half season crown.
