Kenosha Kingfish News Release

Kenosha, Wis. - Jeremy Vasquez stroked an RBI single into right field in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie and ultimately lead the Kingfish to a 7-2 victory over the Kalamazoo Growlers in front of a sold out crowd at Simmons Field Friday night.

Tied at two apiece in the seventh, the Kingfish (48-22) got rolling with a leadoff base hit from Zach Weigel. After Eric Filia was intentionally walked with one out, Vasquez ripped a single to right field to score Weigel. Filia scored and Vasquez advanced to third base after an error by the Growlers right fielder. An Alex Dunlap sacrifice fly to left brought home Vasquez to make it 5-2 Kingfish after seven.

The Kingfish tacked on two more runs late in the game. A Filia RBI single and Alex Borglin sac fly in the eighth inning pushed the Kingfish lead to 7-2.

Pat McInerney had two hits on the night, including a solo home run in the fifth inning. Weigel finished with two hits and a run scored and Vasquez chipped in with two RBIs.

On the mound, P.J. Schuster started and pitched three innings, allowing one run on two hits. Brendon Allen pitched three innings of relief and J.R. Holloway worked the seventh inning to notch the win. Ryan Orr threw the final frame to close out the game for Kenosha.

Cole Schaefer worked six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits to take the loss for the Growlers (16-54). Angelo Armenta led the Growlers at the plate with two hits and an RBI.

The Kingfish finish the regular season with two games this weekend at St. Cloud.
