Kingfish Come Back to Beat Battle Jacks, 10-5

BATTLE CREEK, MI - After trailing early, the Kenosha Kingfish scored exactly two runs over five straight frames en route to a 10-5 win Monday night against the Battle Creek Battle Jacks.

The Battle Jacks got on the board first. James Canar served an RBI single to center, and a wild pitch brought home Brycen Sherwood to hand Battle Creek a 2-0 edge.

Then, the Kingfish tied it in the third. James McCoy hit an RBI double to left to knot the game at two apiece.

But, Battle Creek grabbed the lead back in the bottom of the inning. Tate Peterson sent a sac-fly to right to give the Battle Jacks a 3-2 lead.

Kenosha came right back with two runs in the fourth. Brady Counsell tied the game with an RBI single through the right side, and Taylor Darden grounded one to second to put the Kingfish ahead 4-3.

For the third consecutive inning, the Kingfish plated a pair of runs. Sacrifice flies by Jay Beshears and Bobby Atkinson extended the lead to 6-3.

In the sixth, the Kingfish scored two runs for the fourth straight frame. McCoy drove in a run with a groundout, and Drake Westcott delivered with an RBI single.

The Battle Jacks responded with two in the bottom of the inning. A wild pitch and a Peterson RBI single made it an 8-5 contest.

Kenosha plated a pair in the seventh with two bases-loaded walks. Eventually, Nick Ferazzi struck out the side in the ninth to lock down the 10-5 win for the Kingfish.

Pat Mills and Evan Borst each had two-hit games for Battle Creek, with Mills blasting his league-leading 18th double of the season.

The Battle Jacks (6-10) and Kingfish (9-8) square off again Tuesday at MCCU Field. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
