Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
Hidalgo, Texas --- With an emphasis on "changing things up," the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees today unveiled the promotional calendar for the home portion of their 2006-07 Central Hockey League season. Highlights of the upcoming season's promotions include Time Warner Family Days, a season-long Budweiser promotion, and unique theme nights and giveaways that are a first for the team.
McDonalds/Time Warner Family Nights, in conjunction with SportClips, take place on each of the five Sunday games scheduled this season. Family Night ticket packages are available for just $48 plus service charges and include four game tickets and four McDonalds Value Meal coupons. In addition, characters from popular kid's shows such as Sponge Bob and Patrick and Jimmy Neutron will be on hand for photos and autographs. If that were not enough, SportClips will provide free haircuts to kids 12 and under. Sundays have a family-friendly start time of 4 p.m.
"This is truly an unbelievable value," said Killer Bees General Manager Grant Buckborough. "Families can come out to the game and have a great time. The kids will have a blast not only watching the action on the ice, but also getting to meet their favorite TV characters up close. And since it always seems like a struggle to find time to bring the kids for a haircut, we're bringing the haircuts to the kids. Then, on the way home, everyone can sit down together and enjoy a meal at McDonalds. We're excited to be able to offer such a great deal to our fans."
Other promotions this season include Budweiser Power Plays. Every time the Bees score a power play goal there will be $1 beer at the concession stands for 10 minutes. There are a select number of All Night $1 Beer promotions on tap.
Fans will once again have the chance to win a new DVD player courtesy of Best Buy McAllen by simply purchasing a $1 copy of Buzz Magazine, the official game program of the Killer Bees. Whenever the Bees score a goal, a lucky number will be drawn and the person with the corresponding program wins!
This year's program will have updated features issue by issue; there will be a total of 10 issues. Look for an in-depth profile and interview with Killer Bees head coach Paul Fixter in the first issue. Subsequent issues will take a look at life on the road with the Bees, examine how Sean Gillam is making the transition from player to full time assistant coach, and more.
The Killer Bees have teamed up with other sponsors to bring some unique theme nights and giveaways to the forefront this season. For example, Allegiant Air, McAllen North Rotary, Valley Grande Institute for Academic Studies and the Bees will hold a casino night, complete with a Texas Hold 'Em Tournament. The first 1000 fans will get a deck of Killer Bees playing cards. Other promotions and giveaways include Harley Night, a hockey-playing Mr. Potato Head, cow bells, and some traditional items like two youth jersey nights, mini-sticks, trading cards and two ball cap nights.
The Killer Bees also partnered with WineStyles to provide each season ticket holder account with an autographed bottle of Killer Bee wine. Direct from the Maipo Valley of Chile, fans can choose from the KILLER BEE RESERVE Chardonnay from the Silky style, KILLER BEE RESERVE Malbec from the Mellow style and a KILLER BEE RESERVE Cabernet Sauvignon from the Bold style. There is also a Sauvignon Blanc and Reserve Carmenere in the KILLER BEE collection.
The Killer Bees will hold the second annual Killer Bees Fan Fest at Presidio Shopping Plaza on Saturday, January 13 from 1-5 p.m. The entire Killer Bees team and Sir Sting-A-Lot will be helping the tenants of the plaza with their daily work like washing dogs, offering fashion and wine advice, styling hair and serving hot dogs. More details about will be made available as the event draws near.
"We've really gone out of the way to provide our fans with top-notch promotions and giveaway items this season," said Buckborough. "They deserve it, and demand it. We're always looking for ways to make things more exciting for our fans, and hopefully they are excited as we are about this year's promotional schedule."
