West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

Kids who have endured great health challenges will take over the game operations for the West Michigan Whitecaps at the 6:35pm game on Tuesday, August 15th. Fifteen children who spent time at Helen DeVoss Children's Hospital as patients will be paired with a teammate from the Whitecaps game day operations team to take over tasks at the game, thanks to the generous support from Fifth Third Bank and the Whitecaps Community Foundation. Young patients will stand in for leadership jobs like the General Manager, Grounds Crew, Video Production, Scoreboard, Digital Media and On Field Host. It is an opportunity for the kids to get out of the hospital and try their hands at some behind-scenes management of game day activities.

Kids will get an official game day jersey and other swag as part of this unique experience. Each will have the opportunity to throw out a first pitch and stand on the field as they are introduced with players for the game. They will execute operational tasks and stop at the concessions stand for all their favorite foods. In the 4th inning, kids will be at the autograph table signing and handing out their very own baseball trading cards.

"Kids will be everywhere in the stadium! They literally will be running the show here at LMCU Ballpark. We are excited to give these kids, who have conquered so much in their lives so far, the chance to have fun at the game in a way many don't get to experience," said Joe Chamberlin, Whitecaps CEO. "The goal is to give these kids an opportunity to forget about doctors' appointments and health issues and just let them be kids for the day!"

The West Michigan Whitecaps' Kids Can Conquer game is Tuesday, August 15th at 6:35pm. Gates open at 5:15pm.
